Rep. French Hill of Arkansas issued a statement regarding the recent cyber attack on the U.S. Treasury, which has been attributed to China. He emphasized the ongoing threat posed by cyber attacks from both state and non-state actors.
"The risk of China or other malign actors hacking U.S. government agencies has been apparent over and over again," Rep. Hill stated. He noted that this incident is part of a series of similar attacks on various government entities, including the Office of Personnel Management, Internal Revenue Service, and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
Hill expressed concerns about large federal databases such as FinCEN's Beneficial Ownership Information and the Consolidated Audit Trail at the Securities and Exchange Commission. He highlighted the need for strong protection measures for Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and liability protection.
He concluded by stating that Congress will collaborate with the incoming Trump Administration to investigate cybersecurity issues, ensuring privacy security for all Americans.
