U.S. Senators John Boozman and Martin Heinrich have successfully advanced the Every Kid Outdoors Extension Act through the Senate. This legislation is part of the broader Expanding Public Lands Outdoor Recreation Experiences (EXPLORE) Act, which has also been approved by the House and is now awaiting the president's signature to become law.

Senator Boozman emphasized the importance of outdoor experiences for youth, stating, "Our youth deserve the opportunity to learn about and explore our national parks and develop an appreciation for the lands and resources that help define our nation." He expressed pride in his colleagues' recognition of outdoor adventure benefits for children and families.

Senator Heinrich shared his personal connection to outdoor education: "As a father and a former outdoor educator, I know how much of a difference getting outside can make for our kids." He noted that since its inception five years ago, the original Every Kid Outdoors Act has inspired numerous children and families to visit public lands nationwide. The extension will continue providing opportunities for learning and memory-making on public lands.

The U.S. Department of the Interior initiated this program in 2015, offering free access to federally managed public lands for fourth graders and their families. The current authorization is set to expire in 2026; however, with this new legislation, free access will be extended through 2031.

The program has significantly encouraged exploration of America's public lands by tens of thousands of children and their families. In Arkansas alone, Every Kid Outdoors vouchers facilitated nearly 10,000 visits to public lands in 2023.

The extension act received support from organizations such as The Wilderness Society, Sierra Club, and Outdoor Alliance for Kids.
