U.S. Senator John Boozman expressed approval of the recent decision by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to review the definition of "waters of the United States" (WOTUS). The EPA, in collaboration with the United States Army Corps of Engineers, aims to address concerns that have long affected agricultural stakeholders.

Senator Boozman, who chairs the Senate Agriculture Committee and is a member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, has been vocal about the difficulties Arkansas farmers, ranchers, and landowners face due to WOTUS regulations. He noted that these rules have led to uncertainty and confusion regarding diverted surface water and wetlands, impacting agriculturalists through delays in permitting processes and reductions in property values.

"Our farmers and ranchers want to maintain a safe and clean environment because their livelihoods depend on it," Boozman stated. He further mentioned that WOTUS regulations have hindered conservation-focused investments but expressed optimism for a more practical policy approach moving forward.

The announcement was supported by Senators Kevin Cramer, Joni Ernst, Katie Britt, Western Caucus Chairman Doug LaMalfa, Representative Derrick Van Orden, and Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall. These figures joined Boozman in welcoming the EPA's commitment to promptly revise the WOTUS definition.
