The Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts (AMFA) has appointed Andrea Moon as the new director of its Windgate Art School. Moon brings over 27 years of experience as a contemporary ceramic artist, sculptor, and educator to her new role. Previously, she served as a lecturer at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University and was the director of education at Craft Alliance in St. Louis.

“Andrea’s expansive experience as an educator and ceramic artist and her passion for creating an accessible space for the community to create together makes her a perfect fit here at the Museum,” said Dr. Victoria Ramirez, AMFA’s Executive Director. “With her leadership, AMFA’s Windgate Art School will undoubtedly grow and embrace the creative spirit of our local community.”

The Windgate Art School offers studio instruction in various disciplines including drawing, painting, ceramics, glass, metals, woodworking, and printmaking with more than 70 practicing artist instructors. The school provides classes for students of all ages and skill levels throughout the year.

In her new position, Moon will lead efforts to enhance educational offerings and foster a dynamic environment for students and emerging artists. She will oversee all aspects of the school while developing strategic plans that align with AMFA's mission.

"I believe in building relationships and helping others realize their potential through the education of craft and art,” said Moon. “It is with great excitement that I join the team at the Windgate Art School and look forward to interacting with its incredible students.”

Moon's career includes key leadership roles such as residency coordinator at Red Lodge Clay Center in Montana and director of International Artist Residency at The Pottery Workshop in Jingdezhen, China. Her academic background includes degrees from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and Texas Tech University in Lubbock.

Registration for winter classes at Windgate Art School is open now with spring registration starting on March 6. The Reduced Tuition Program supported by Michael Laughter offers discounts on multi-week classes through 2025.

The Windgate Foundation supports Windgate Art School along with contributions from Sherry Worthen in memory of George Worthen.

Founded in 1937, AMFA is Arkansas's largest cultural institution featuring visual arts experiences alongside educational programs. Located in Little Rock’s MacArthur Park, its landmark building was designed by Studio Gang and SCAPE with Polk Stanley Wilcox Architects.
