Southwest Patrol Officers responded to 3801 Baseline Road just after 10:30 p.m. in reference to a shooting call for service on Tuesday July 4, 2023. Communications was advised by the 9-1-1 caller that he shot someone in self-defense. Officers arrived on scene and made contact with Ollie Jones in the parking lot where he was taken into custody. A short time later, a black male later identified as 26-year-old Jalen Johnson was located on the second floor of the apartment building suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. MEMS responded and attempted life-saving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers immediately secured the area and notified Homicide Detectives. Later, the Pulaski County Coroner responded to the scene and transported the body of Mr. Johnson to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy and next of kin was later notified.

The Crime Scene Search Unit responded shortly after Homicide Detectives. A preliminary investigation began as detectives canvassed the area and spoke with Mr. Jones. After questioning, detectives would arrest and charge Jones with First Degree Murder. He was then transferred to PCRJ without incident. This investigation is ongoing and occurred in the Southwest Division.
