U.S. Senators John Boozman and Steve Daines have introduced the Protecting Access for Hunters and Anglers Act. This bill aims to prevent the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and the U.S. Forest Service from banning lead ammunition or tackle on public lands unless supported by scientific evidence.

Senator Boozman emphasized the importance of outdoor activities in Arkansas, stating, “Enjoying the outdoors through hunting and fishing is part of the fabric and culture of The Natural State.” He added that these activities play a crucial role in wildlife management.

Senator Daines echoed similar sentiments about Montana's outdoor lifestyle, saying, “The great outdoors is a staple of our Montana way of life." He stressed that any decisions affecting outdoor recreation should be based on "commonsense science."

The legislation specifically prevents bans on lead ammunition or tackle unless it is scientifically proven that such use significantly impacts wildlife populations on federal lands or waters.

The bill has garnered support from several senators, including Senate Majority Leader John Thune and others from various states.
