President Trump and the Republican-controlled Congress have initiated actions to address what they describe as failures in immigration policies under the previous administration. The new administration has focused on reversing these policies, which they claim led to chaos at the southern border.

A report indicates that encounters at the southern border decreased by 35% in the first three days of Trump's presidency compared to the final days of Biden's term. Within 48 hours of taking office, Trump's administration began deportation actions targeting criminal illegal immigrants.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations team arrested over 460 illegal immigrants within a 33-hour period following inauguration day. These individuals included offenders from various countries such as Afghanistan, Angola, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Senegal and Venezuela. The operations were conducted across multiple states including "sanctuary cities."

President Trump signed several executive orders aimed at enhancing border security and removing illegal immigrants deemed threatening. These orders include declaring a national emergency at the southern border and deploying additional military personnel to regain control. Other directives aim to end catch-and-release practices and require migrants to remain in Mexico while awaiting asylum hearings.

Congress has also passed legislation known as the Laken Riley Act in response to crimes committed by illegal immigrants. This act mandates ICE detention for those accused of specific crimes such as theft or assault on law enforcement officers. It also allows states to sue the federal government over immigration enforcement issues.

The Trump administration emphasizes its commitment to securing borders and addressing immigration challenges that it claims have been neglected in recent years.
