U.S. Senators John Boozman and Roger Wicker have introduced a new piece of legislation aimed at making the Hyde Amendment permanent. The amendment currently prevents taxpayer dollars from being used to fund abortions, but it requires annual reauthorization by Congress.

Boozman expressed concern over recent efforts to challenge this standard, stating, "There has been a longstanding, bipartisan agreement that Americans should not be forced to subsidize abortions with their hard-earned tax dollars." He emphasized the need for a consistent federal policy that aligns with pro-life values.

Wicker echoed these sentiments, saying, "Millions of Americans share my belief that unborn life should be protected in the womb. Using taxpayer dollars to fund abortions is wrong." He affirmed the commitment of Senate Republicans to continue advocating for life-preserving measures.

The bill has garnered support from several other Republican senators, including Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Senators James Lankford, Cindy Hyde-Smith, Jim Banks, among others. Companion legislation has also been introduced in the House by Congressman Chris Smith.

Pro-life groups have endorsed the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2025. Marilyn Musgrave from Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America remarked on its significance: "No matter which party holds power in Washington, Americans should never be forced to fund the violence of abortion with their tax dollars."

Jeanne F. Mancini from March for Life Action added her support: “This Act rightly prevents hard-earned taxpayer dollars from paying for harmful abortions.”

The proposed legislation seeks to solidify existing protections against federally funded abortions and extend them across all government sectors.
