As a child, I had a strong affinity for the outdoors, enjoying activities like fishing and biking around Fort Smith with friends. These early experiences fostered a lifelong appreciation for nature that I aim to inspire in young Americans.

In 2015, the U.S. Department of Interior initiated a program offering free access to national parks and public lands for fourth graders and their families. The program's success led Congress to make it law, ensuring future generations have similar opportunities. This initiative has sparked interest among young people in exploring our landscapes.

Together with Senator Martin Henrich (D-NM), I've introduced the Every Kid Outdoors Extension Act to continue this effort. "Introducing young Americans to our national parks encourages an appreciation for the lands and resources that help define our country," I stated, expressing pride in supporting legislation that enables the next generation to explore these national treasures.

The Every Kid Outdoors program has successfully motivated tens of thousands of children and their families to visit over 2,000 sites across America’s public lands, waters, historic sites, and national parks. Since 2021, more than 18,000 vouchers have been distributed to Arkansas fourth graders and others involved in education and caregiving. Interest in this park pass is growing as it fosters environmental stewardship and boosts participation in outdoor activities.

Outdoor recreation plays a significant role in Arkansas' economy, impacting 43,000 jobs and generating over $4 billion in consumer spending. Supporting this industry enhances opportunities while preserving the environment.

Recently, I met with Arkansans involved in various outdoor activities such as hiking, rock climbing, and mountain biking. These members of the Outdoor Alliance advocate for policies that improve access to public lands nationwide.

Arkansas has seen positive results from investments in biking interest statewide. Trails have gained popularity both locally and nationally among biking enthusiasts. Earlier this year, the Adventure Cycling Association designated USBR 51 as its first U.S. Bicycle Route System trail in Arkansas. It spans 88 miles from the Missouri state line to Alma along paths including the Razorback Greenway.

Rock climbing also attracts enthusiasts due to Arkansas' rugged rock formations with over 400 climbing sites available statewide. I support local climbers by promoting policies that ensure access to public lands—a reason why I recently co-signed a bipartisan letter urging federal agencies reconsideration on fixed anchor use restrictions within federally-designated wilderness areas.

Arkansas offers numerous outdoor opportunities for residents and visitors alike who cherish exploring natural wonders close by home turf—something deeply appreciated by locals keen on backyard adventures too! Working alongside colleagues will help make these pursuits even more accessible moving forward into future endeavors together collectively united towards common goals shared mutually beneficially!
