Southwest Patrol Officers responded to a shooting call for service at 7325 Fairfield Drive just before 10 p.m., on June 19, 2023. Upon arrival, officers discovered 49-year-old Ricardo Sykes lying in the front yard of the residence suffering from several gunshot wounds. MEMS responded and transported Mr. Sykes to a local hospital for further treatment. Simultaneously, the scene was secured and shortly afterward, 40-year-old Crystal Perkins called 9-1-1 Emergency Communications stating she would surrender to police officers the next morning. Subsequently, officers attempted to locate Ms. Perkins near Scott Hamilton Drive to no avail. Officers were later informed Mr. Sykes succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, prompting Homicide Detectives to respond. Later, the Pulaski County Coroner transported the body of Mr. Sykes to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy and the next of kin was notified.
The Crime Scene Search Unit responded shortly after Homicide Detectives. A preliminary investigation began as detectives canvassed the area for witnesses and video surveillance. The following day, Ms. Perkins was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder. This investigation is ongoing and occurred in the Southwest Division.
