It’s been a while since we updated you on what’s happening with our online auctions. We’re past the 18-month mark – we started offering parcels through online auctions on July 1, 2021 – and we’re closing in on $5 million in bids.

When someone places a bid on a parcel, that parcel’s auction period begins. It continues for 30 days. In the year and a half since we began, only seven days have elapsed without a new auction beginning. This week, from Monday through this morning, almost 90 new auctions have begun.

We hit $2 million in online sales in May last year, just 10 months after beginning this type of sales. We’ve cleared out most of the old parcels from our inventory – we went from 8,400 old parcels to just over 500 of those originals. But since we add more parcels throughout the auction season, we still have more than 8,000 available. Of those, more than 5,200 are from the 2022 season, and over 2,400 from the 2021 season.

We currently have two parcels slightly larger than 3 acres, and a total of nine parcels contain 1 or more acres.

In active bidding, the most popular parcel right now has 47 bids, with a high bid of $805, ending tomorrow. The most expensive parcel is $10,515 with 15 bids, ending Jan. 27.

And in the 18 months since auctions began, just 1,138 parcels have been redeemed after being sold at auction, of 12,124 auctions completed. We’ve received more than 179,700 bids (over 300 bids this week!) and issued 11,529 deeds for $4.62 million worth of property. All-time bids are over $4.89 million.

If you haven’t already checked it out, do that today. You’ll find everything at https://auction.cosl.org/.
