Over the past three and a half years, we’ve worked to be more accessible, more user-friendly and more efficient stewards of your tax dollars. We allowed property owners to begin redeeming property online. We moved post-auction sales to an online format. We’ve begun electronically recording deeds in many counties, which means those deeds are processed and recorded faster.
Now it’s time for the next change. We’ve always held a separate auction for each county each year. But that’s time-consuming and frustrating for many people who can’t take off work multiple days for auctions in surrounding counties.
So in the 2023 season, we’ll begin holding regional auctions.
Some counties have large catalogs of delinquencies, and those will remain as a single auction. But most counties will have joint auctions with contiguous counties. These regional sales will be held at larger facilities in a central location. These will be all-day events, beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing until we’re done.
Finally, we’ll begin auctions later in the year than we have in the past. Holding regional auctions allows us to compress our schedule and reduce travel time and expenses. We’ll begin the season on July 11 and continue through September 26.
You can see the schedule and grouping of counties in the graphic below. And be sure to bookmark https://www.cosl.org/Home/Contents. That’s where we’ll post location information and the catalog of properties as we get closer to the kick-off date.
