U.S. Senator John Boozman, the Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, has expressed concerns regarding the recent Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee’s Scientific Report. Boozman's statement emphasizes the importance of basing dietary guidelines on solid scientific evidence.

"Congress has long called for the Dietary Guidelines to be based on sound science," Boozman stated. He highlighted the need for these guidelines to provide updated nutritional information essential for federal programs and consumer decision-making. Boozman raised concerns about recommendations within the report that suggest reducing meat consumption, noting that "beef is a nutrient-rich food that is part of a well-balanced and nutritious diet."

As the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Health and Human Services (HHS) work on finalizing the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, Boozman hopes that they will prioritize "unbiased and evidenced-based nutrition science."

Earlier in April, Senator Boozman, along with Senator Bill Cassidy from Louisiana, who serves as Ranking Member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, sent a letter to the Biden administration. The letter requested details on how federal nutrition guidelines are being developed.
