ARKANSAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION - STATE HIGHWAY COMMISSION: Routine Bridge Maintenance to Result In Lane Closures On The Garrison Avenue Bridge (Highway 64) In Fort Smith Next Week

Arkansas Department of Transportation - State Highway Commission issued the following announcement on May 23.

Routine bridge maintenance on the Garrison Avenue Bridge (Highway 64) over the Arkansas River in Fort Smith will cause temporary lane closures next week.

Weather permitting, bridge maintenance crews will work in the eastbound lanes from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. beginning Monday, May 23. Upon completion along the eastbound side, the maintenance crews will switch to the westbound lanes from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Lane closures will be in place Monday, May 23 through Thursday, May 26.

Traffic will encounter signage and orange cones as they enter the work zone. ARDOT reminds drivers to slow down and minimize distractions when moving through a work zone. Using a phone in a work zone is unlawful and can result in citations and doubled fines.
