ARKANSAS HOSPITALITY ASSOCIATION: Remembering Bob Knight

Candle 760x475

Arkansas Hospitality Association issued the following announcement Nov. 2.

It is with a very heavy heart that we share the news that Bob Knight has passed away. Bob, a former president of the Arkansas Broadcasters Association, was a legend not only in Arkansas broadcasting but in the Natural State itself.

Executive Director Luke Story shared heartfelt memories of how Bob helped shape him when he came to Arkansas:

“Bob Knight, hugely shaped my (and many others) view on life, broadcast, and service to others. I’ve never met someone as equally impressive, smart, and grounded as Bob. We were originally brought together for business purposes, I soon began to learn from his views and perspectives and his wealth of knowledge - like many of us have. That will always be fundamental for my understanding of the world and our beloved industry of broadcast. I know I am in agreement with the rest of our Arkansas broadcast family when I say ‘thank you for showing us the way. We will miss you but never forget you.’ ”

Having began his work in broadcasting at KTLO-AM in Mountain Home, even before the FM station existed. Over time, he became known as "The Voice of KTLO." A co-owner of Mountain Lakes Broadcasting Group, he was talented both on-air and in managing the station. Across more than forty years, he gave his community a sense of pride and welcomed them every morning with his signature "it’s time to rise and shine."

This commitment to the community was shown outside broadcasting as well. Bob spent nearly a decade and a half on the Arkansas Parks & Recreation Travel Commission, raised funding a goods donations to communities all across Arkansas, especially his own Mountain Home.
