Traffic1

Source: Arkansas Department of Transportation - State Highway Commission issued the following announcement on July 9.

Over the next 7-10 days, traffic in Little Rock will see a number of travel impacts and traffic pattern changes along Interstate 30, according to Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) officials.

Friday, July 9 at 10 p.m. – Monday, July 12 at 5 a.m.

Weather permitting; the following closures are part of a maintenance of traffic plan to demolish the 9th Street Bridge in order to reconstruct it.

  • I-30 closed between I-630 and 6th St. | Eastbound traffic will take the 6th/9th Street ramp (Exit 140) to the frontage road and will use the on-ramp at 6th Street to return to I-30. Westbound traffic will take the 6th Street ramp (Exit 140B) to the frontage road and will use the on-ramp south of 9th Street to return to I-30. See map 21-208-A for more information.
  • I-630 eastbound ramp closed to I-30 eastbound | Traffic will take I-30 westbound to I-440 and return to I-30 as needed. See map 21-208-B for more information
Monday, July 12 – Saturday, July 17

Weather permitting, crews will be working to open and close interstate ramps as part of a maintenance of traffic plan to reconstruct the I-30 bridge and its associated ramps, along with directing I-30 eastbound drivers into the Little Rock downtown street grid. Traffic will begin using the reconstructed two-lane off-ramp (Exit 140) as the primary route to reach the River Market, MacArthur Park, the East Village, and other downtown destinations.

  • I-30 eastbound ramp opened to the northbound frontage road (Exit 140) | Expected by Wednesday morning, traffic will begin to take the reconstructed ramp to 6th/9th Sts. and the downtown city grid. Later in the week, I-30 eastbound Exit 141A will be closed to Highway 10, Cantrell Road, and Clinton Avenue, making Exit 140 the only I-30 eastbound off-ramp to downtown Little Rock. See map 21-203-A for more information.
  • I-630 eastbound ramp opened to the northbound frontage road | Expected by Wednesday morning, traffic will begin to use a new single-lane ramp directly connecting with the frontage road and providing drivers with the ability to access the Little Rock street grid without entering I-30 traffic. See map 21-203-A for more information.
  • I-30 off-ramps closed permanently to Cumberland Street (Exit 141A) | Expected as early as Thursday night, crews will permanently close the I-30 eastbound and westbound exit ramps to Cumberland Street, although the existing off-ramp loop to 2nd Street will remain open. Eastbound traffic will be signed to use the newly opened downtown off-ramp (Exit 140) to 6th and 9th Streets and the city’s street grid. See maps 21-216-B and 21-216-C for more information.
  • Cumberland St. on-ramp closed permanently to I-30 eastbound | Expected as early as Thursday night, crews will permanently close the on-ramp. Traffic will be signed to use the 6th St. on-ramp to I-30 eastbound. See map 21-216-A for more information.

This work schedule is weather permitting, and each phase of the maintenance of traffic plan is dependent on the outlined sequence of construction.
