WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Boozman, the ranking member of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee, expressed his thoughts on the U.S. Department of Agriculture's final rule revising school meal standards.

"It is good to see the changes reflected in the final rule today," Senator Boozman stated while acknowledging the developments in the revised standards. He also remarked, "USDA’s proposed rule was far too extreme."

Senator Boozman further added, "I appreciate that the final rule incorporates the feedback from stakeholders, school nutrition professionals, and my colleagues to more carefully balance nutrition, menu options, and affordability." He emphasized the importance of considering various perspectives in the formulation of these standards.

While recognizing the progress made, Senator Boozman highlighted that "This final rule still presents challenges for schools to implement, and I will remain closely engaged in the process." He reiterated his commitment to overseeing the implementation of the new standards.
