President Trump delivered the State of the Union Address to a joint session of Congress, continuing a longstanding American tradition. The address was given in the House of Representatives chamber and attended by senators, congressmen, cabinet members, military officials, Supreme Court justices, and invited guests. The event was broadcast nationally and streamed worldwide.

Over time, the State of the Union Address has evolved from an annual report to a major political event. In 2026, President Trump highlighted achievements from his first year back in office and outlined future goals.

The address included several notable moments such as an appearance by the Olympic gold medal-winning men’s hockey team and the awarding of Congressional Medals of Honor, Purple Hearts, and a Legion of Merit to servicemembers. A former political prisoner from Venezuela was also reunited with his niece during the ceremony.

President Trump focused on key policy accomplishments and plans for upcoming years. He stated: “The Republican agenda is helping Arkansans keep more of their hard-earned paychecks while bolstering national security and protecting communities from dangerous threats including crime and drugs. Congress is working closely with the administration to deliver on these priorities through the Working Families Tax Cuts and other policies that reduce burdensome regulations, unleash domestic energy and support those defending us at home and abroad.”

He continued: “We prevented a $2.6 trillion tax hike and made our tax code even more pro-growth with provisions such as no tax on tips or overtime and permanent relief for small businesses. After years of raging inflation under the Biden administration, our economic policies are finally bringing down costs: gas prices have fallen, mortgage rates are dropping, wages are rising faster than inflation and new investments are being made that will create more jobs and stimulate expansion and opportunity.”

Trump also announced a significant investment in agriculture: “The president’s leadership also secured a once-in-a-generation $68 billion investment in agriculture. Modernizing and updating the farm safety net for this industry that has faced years-long challenges to its viability was critical, and we will continue our efforts to ensure families who feed, fuel and clothe the world have the resources they need to ensure a bright and strong future for rural America.”

On public safety issues he said: “The administration has also prioritized restoring law and order, with Congress delivering additional tools and resources that help our law enforcement personnel carry out their duties. As a result, violent crime is declining and efforts to remove dangerous and criminal illegal aliens are making our communities safer.”

Other achievements were mentioned as well as renewed American leadership internationally. The address coincided with preparations for America’s 250th birthday celebration.
