Arkansas Department of Transportation - State Highway Commission issued the following announcement on April 25.
A recent pavement strength analysis and review of Highway 33 resulted in a recommendation to remove the weight restriction for this highway.
This highway previously had a weight restriction of 72,280 pounds. The recent falling weight deflectometer (FWD) analysis conducted by ARDOT’s Asset Management Section yielded the recommendation to remove the weight restriction. Updates to IDriveArkansas.com reflect this change.
The FWD is a device used to evaluate pavement and pavement layer stiffness. It operates by dropping a weight onto the pavement and measuring the resulting pavement deflections.
The mission of the Asset Management Section is to collect, analyze, manage, report, and disseminate pavement performance data and information on all state highways. The Asset Management Section develops and maintains tools and methods to assist decision-makers in finding cost-effective strategies for maintaining the highway network in a state of good repair.
