University of Arkansas at Little Rock issued the following announcement on March 05, 2020.
In collaboration with the Central Arkansas Library System (CALS), the UA Little Rock Ottenheimer Library is sponsoring a series of Vietnam War-themed films in support of an NEA
Big Read of Tim O’Brien’s The Things They Carried.
The film series at the Ron Robinson Theater begins on March 5 and continues through April 16. Dr. James Ross, Associate Professor of History at UA Little Rock, will introduce and provide
historical and cultural context for the films.
This series of FREE screenings includes:
Thursday, March 5: We Were Soldiers
Thursday, March 12: Full Metal Jacket
Thursday, March 19: The Deer Hunter
Thursday, March 26: Born on the Fourth of July
Thursday, April 2: Good Morning, Vietnam
Thursday, April 9: Apocalypse Now Final Cut
Thursday, April 16: Platoon
In addition to the film series, the NEA Big Read will feature a lecture by the author, Tim O’Brien, book discussions at CALS branch libraries, as well as other related events. For free tickets to the

The university and CALS collaborated in the past on a 2017 NEA Big Read of the novel, Into the Beautiful North, and we are excited about this latest community read and discussion.
