U.S. Senator John Boozman has urged the U.S. State Department to reform and continue supporting initiatives aimed at enhancing global food security and promoting cultural exchanges, including the Fulbright Program. During a Senate Appropriations Subcommittee hearing on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs, Boozman questioned Secretary of State Marco Rubio about his vision for coordinating with other agencies in reforming foreign assistance.
Boozman emphasized the importance of leveraging existing efforts by the USDA to improve global food aid in a manner that benefits American farmers while fulfilling national interests. Rubio responded, “We do foreign aid across other agencies. In the case of food aid, we’ve done a lot of reform and a lot of change over the last few months.”
The senator also highlighted his support for the Fulbright Program, noting its significant impact on diplomatic relations worldwide. “Forty-four Fulbright alumni have served as heads of state and government,” Boozman stated.
Boozman encouraged collaboration with Rubio to strengthen the program amidst modern challenges. Rubio assured that they would work closely together during the appropriations process to achieve shared goals.
