The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office said on May 2 that Fernando Escobedo is in custody at the county detention facility with an additional hold for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement after being arrested by the Little Rock Police Department on a felony warrant.
The case highlights ongoing coordination between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities. The sheriff’s office maintains procedures to process individuals with both criminal charges and potential immigration violations, according to its public records.
“According to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office inmate portal, Fernando Escobedo appears in custody at the detention facility after the Little Rock Police Department took him into custody on an affidavit-felony warrant. Records indicate the additional hold for Immigration and Customs Enforcement along with a separate court hold and surety bond. The public portal provides transparency on all bookings and holds processed at the facility serving the central Arkansas region. This coordination occurs during standard intake procedures for individuals in local custody,” according to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office inmate portal.
“Arkansas State Police have turned over dozens of individuals to federal immigration authorities following arrests for other criminal matters. State and local agencies maintain partnerships that allow checks on immigration status during routine law enforcement encounters. Pulaski County operations contribute to these efforts through the regional detention facility handling such cases in the Little Rock area. These collaborations support processing of individuals with potential immigration violations alongside state criminal justice activities,” according to Camden Arkansas News.
“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement continues operations that result in the arrest of individuals with criminal convictions or pending charges from state and local jurisdictions nationwide. Federal data reflect frequent use of detainers placed on inmates in county facilities to review immigration status before release. This approach applies to cases involving serious offenses processed through the criminal justice system. Local jails across the country participate in these federal coordination programs on a regular basis,” according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
“Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office serves as the primary law enforcement agency for Pulaski County and operates the regional detention facility. Sheriff Eric Higgins leads the department which focuses on public safety initiatives and maintains an online inmate portal for access to custody records. The office manages bookings warrants and coordination with partner agencies including federal entities for appropriate holds. It provides services to a population exceeding 386000 residents in the central part of the state,” according to Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office.
