Little Rock athletes delivered strong performances at the Arkansas Spring Invite, with junior Matthew Tyeskie leading the team on April 11. Tyeskie finished third in the 110-meter hurdles, building on his season after previously breaking both the Ohio Valley Conference and school records in the 60-meter hurdles.
The event served as a competitive test for several Trojans ahead of their upcoming home meet. “I appreciate the opportunity to just go out there and compete,” said Tyeskie. “It’s a chance to showcase the work we’ve put in and see where we can make adjustments. Great competition tests your race composure and exposes what we need to do to win championships at the end of the year. All in all, a great meet. Let’s keep it rolling—Go Trojans.”
Other notable performances included junior Devin Stevens placing sixth in the invitational section of the 800 meters with a time of 1:51.30, senior Deshawn Roberts finishing fourth in high jump by clearing 2.06 meters, and senior Brooklyn Marcee achieving a season-best mark of 3.94 meters for sixth place in pole vault.
Graduate student Jordan Smith and sophomore Aaliyah Joshua each earned top-10 finishes in their respective sections of the 3000 meters as they continue preparations for future meets.
Head coach J.P. Behnke said, “Most of the team is training through this week, but a few athletes needed another competition, so we took a smaller group to Arkansas.” Behnke added that they accomplished their goals for this meet and are looking forward to competing at home next week.
The Trojans will host their own invitational event at Coleman Sports Complex on April 17–18, where they also plan to honor seniors during Saturday’s competition.
