Little Rock athletes earned two first-place finishes at the Carl Kight Invite & Multi, according to an April 3 announcement. Seniors Brooklyn Marcee and Deshawn Roberts led the team with top performances in their respective events.

The results are important as they reflect the team’s preparation for upcoming conference competitions. The event allowed a smaller group of Little Rock athletes to focus on multi-events and field competitions, building experience ahead of future meets.

Marcee tied for first place in the pole vault with a mark of 3.91 meters. Roberts secured first place in the high jump by clearing 2.09 meters, coming close to his season best. “My mindset was simple—just enjoy the sport of track & field while building momentum for even greater heights,” said Roberts.

Freshman Trace Foreman placed third overall in the decathlon with 5,933 points, while sophomore Morcleslou Harris was unable to finish that event. On the women’s side, senior JaDerrika Welch-Fields finished fifth in a strong heptathlon field with a total of 4,432 points.

Assistant coach Will Kendall said, “I’m very proud of how everyone handled the conditions. We had downpours, lightning delays, and long days. Our high jumpers and pole vaulters had a very strong meet, and it should be a great confidence boost heading into the second half of the outdoor season. The multis are always tough, but it was a valuable experience for everyone. We’ll look to continue the momentum next week in Fayetteville, while the multi-athletes get some well-deserved rest and recovery.” Full results from the meet are available online.

The Trojans will compete again next Saturday at the Arkansas Spring Invite in Fayetteville as they continue their outdoor season.
