The Little Rock Trojans baseball team won both games of a doubleheader against Western Illinois on April 4, securing a 6-5 victory in extra innings and an 8-5 win in the scheduled game. The wins improved the Trojans’ overall record to 19-12 and their Ohio Valley Conference record to 7-1.
The series is significant for the Trojans as it strengthens their position in conference play and demonstrates resilience under challenging conditions.
Head coach Chris Curry said, “Man, what a day. Conditions were about as bad as they could be on a saturated field and 40 degrees with 20-mph winds. These guys just showed incredible toughness coming back to win the first game, and them jumping out and early and winning the second game.” Curry added, “It feels good to win the series, and we will be ready to take the third game tomorrow.”
In the first game—which was suspended Friday due to weather—the Trojans resumed play trailing by one run but tied it in the ninth inning with an RBI single from Ty Rhoades. Cade Martin then hit a go-ahead RBI double in the tenth inning. Gage Haley earned the win after pitching two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Kade Smith led offensively with two hits and two RBIs.
During Game Two, Little Rock scored four runs in the first inning, highlighted by Trey Hill’s three-run home run. Ryan Geck added another run with a solo home run in the second inning. Jerdy Lopez contributed significantly by going three-for-five at bat with two RBIs.
The teams are scheduled for another matchup Sunday at 1 p.m., though there will not be a streaming broadcast; fans can follow live updates via social media.
