The Little Rock Trojans men’s baseball team secured a decisive 12-2 run-rule win over Samford on March 15, clinching the weekend series at J.L. Griffin Field in Birmingham, Alabama.
The result is significant for the Trojans, who improved their season record to 10-9 and demonstrated strong pitching and offensive depth throughout the game.
Head coach Chris Curry said, “After things didn’t go our way on Friday, we talked about getting up early Saturday and flipping the momentum into our dugout on Sunday, and that’s exactly what we did. Momentum starts and stops on the mound, and Busick was outstanding. On the road against a tough team, we got three quality starts, and the bullpen was throwing strikes. Proud of our club and looking forward to seeing everybody back home on Tuesday.”
Zach Busick earned his third win of the season after pitching five innings with three strikeouts while allowing six hits and two runs. Kade Smith led offensively with three hits—including two doubles—two runs batted in (RBI), and two runs scored. Cade Martin contributed two hits and two RBI; Easton Roe also drove in two runs; Jerdy Lopez added another pair of RBI as well. The Trojans collected five doubles during the game.
Samford used six pitchers who combined to allow 13 hits from Little Rock’s lineup. Trent Jordan provided relief for Little Rock by throwing two scoreless innings.
Looking ahead, Little Rock faces a demanding schedule with five games in six days: a home series against Oral Roberts on Tuesday and Wednesday followed by an Ohio Valley Conference opener at Tennessee Tech from March 20 to March 22.
