Little Rock baseball is nationally ranked for the first time in the 12-year tenure of head coach Chris Curry, following a postseason run that has rewritten the program’s record book and placed Little Rock among the nation’s final 16 teams, according to a June 3 announcement.
The Trojans are ranked No. 19 in this week’s National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll as they enter Super Regional week with a 39-26 record. This marks the first national ranking during Curry’s era and comes after one of the most successful two-year periods in school history.
“To be ranked in the top 20 nationally is another indication of where our program has risen to,” Curry said. “I’m proud of our players and staff and coaches for being recognized at this level. I hope we can only keep getting better.”
The team has won eight consecutive games, captured its second straight Ohio Valley Conference Tournament championship, and advanced through the Hattiesburg Regional undefeated. During this stretch, Little Rock defeated regional host Southern Miss and Conference USA champion Jacksonville State twice to secure its first-ever Super Regional appearance.
This season also saw several milestones for Curry, who became Little Rock’s all-time winningest coach earlier this spring and reached his 300th career victory at Little Rock during the OVC Tournament championship game. The Trojans will play at Troy in the Super Regional on Friday at 4 p.m., with another game scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m.; the winner will advance to Omaha for a spot in the College World Series.
