The Little Rock men’s golf team is in ninth place at even par after two rounds of the Michael A. Marino Classic, according to a March 15 update from the team. The tournament is being held at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club and features a strong NCAA Division I field hosted by Coastal Carolina University.
The Trojans began the event with a three-over-par round but improved in the second round, finishing three-under to return to even par as a team. Due to rain in the forecast, coaches agreed to adjust the schedule, with teams playing the first nine holes of the second round on Sunday and planning to complete the remaining nine holes on Monday. The final round of 18 holes is scheduled for Tuesday.
Head coach Austin Eoff said that while his team made some mistakes, they are still well positioned midway through the tournament. “We just have to clean up a few uncharacteristic mistakes out there today,” Eoff said. “We have made the second most birdies in the field through 27 holes. We just need to do a better job of holding onto them.”
Liberty University leads at 12-under par, followed by University of Louisville at 11-under and North Carolina State University at 10-under. Three Trojans—Viggo Talasmaki, Ed Featherstone, and another teammate—are tied for 19th place at one-under par through two rounds. Elliott Simonsen sits at even par in 27th place, Mark Stockdale is two-over in 41st place, and Rhett South is five-over in 65th place. Alexander Rowland, competing as an individual, is in 89th place at twelve-over.
Eoff said weather conditions could play a role as play continues: “Halfway through the event and still right there, especially with the challenging wind, rain, and cold temperatures moving into the area,” he said.
The tournament will continue with completion of round two on Monday and conclude with an eighteen-hole final round on Tuesday.
