FOIA Request to University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Regarding Chinese National Students on June 3, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Pulaski Times have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Our request seeks detailed information concerning Chinese National students currently enrolled at the university.

Specifically, we are requesting documents or lists that reveal the number and departmental distribution of current students who are Chinese Nationals. If privacy concerns prevent disclosure of individual names, we have asked for aggregated data instead. Additionally, we seek information on scholarships awarded to these students, including amounts and sources, with particular interest in any affiliations with the Chinese Scholarship Council.

Furthermore, our request includes any policies or procedures the university has in place to monitor students—Chinese Nationals included—to safeguard its Intellectual Property and other confidential information.

This request is made not only in our capacity as a media organization but also on behalf of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. This coalition assists media companies and public advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies by leveraging Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws to enhance transparency and inform the American public.

In line with our role in disseminating crucial information to the public, we have requested a fee waiver as members of the media. Access to these records is vital for holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency in their operations.
