Little Rock junior right-hander Brannon Westmoreland was named Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, according to an April 27 announcement from the league office.
Westmoreland earned this recognition after pitching a complete-game shutout in Friday night’s 2-0 win against Lindenwood. His performance helped secure a key road victory for the Trojans as they approach the final weeks of conference play.
“Brannon has been the model of consistency for our team,” Little Rock head coach Chris Curry said. “He is a big reason we are in first place right now with just three weeks to go. His work ethic and routine is the best, and that is why he will pitch for a long time.”
During his outing, Westmoreland pitched all nine innings, allowing six hits and five walks while striking out five batters. He threw 108 pitches to earn the win, finishing with a 0.00 earned run average across nine innings for the week. In what remained a scoreless game through four innings, he kept Lindenwood from scoring and gave Little Rock’s offense time to take control.
“It is a super cool honor,” Westmoreland said. “To be recognized for having a good game. It is set up if I do my job, if I do what helps the team win, OVC Pitcher of the Week is an add-on.” For this season, he has continued to provide steady performances on the mound.
Looking ahead, Little Rock will face Arkansas State on Tuesday at 6 p.m., followed by hosting Morehead State in an Ohio Valley Conference series beginning Friday evening at Gary Hogan Field.
