U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Chairman John Boozman has expressed his support for a new strategy announced by USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins to combat the New World screwworm. The plan includes the establishment of a sterile fly dispersal facility in South Texas.
Boozman highlighted the threat posed by the New World screwworm to America’s livestock industry and acknowledged the potential impact on farmers and ranchers. He stated, “The New World screwworm poses a serious threat to America’s livestock industry and the livelihoods of hardworking farmers and ranchers.”
He further commended Secretary Rollins for her proactive measures, saying, “I applaud Secretary Rollins for taking critical action to mitigate this risk and protect our livestock, agricultural economy and rural communities.”
The initiative represents a significant step in addressing an issue that affects both economic stability in rural areas and national agricultural interests.
