U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) has issued a statement addressing the federal government shutdown resulting from the lapse in Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations. Boozman expressed concern about the situation, saying, ā€œI’m disappointed in the partisan political tactics that led here and share the frustration with the impact a shutdown will have on Arkansans and all Americans who rely on government services. My Democratic colleagues in the Senate voted 13 times for clean continuing resolutions during the last administration but are now demanding $1 trillion in unrelated policies, which is totally unreasonable. As an Appropriations Committee member, I know we need to pass this simple stopgap and continue working to advance bipartisan, year-long funding bills that deliver the certainty and predictability federal departments and agencies need.ā€

The government shutdown follows disagreements over funding measures for fiscal year 2026. Boozman pointed to past actions by Senate Democrats regarding continuing resolutions during previous administrations as part of his criticism of current negotiations.

The shutdown affects federal services relied upon by citizens across Arkansas and the nation.
