U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Chairman John Boozman and U.S. House Committee on Agriculture Chairman Glenn Thompson have expressed concerns regarding the initial findings of the MAHA Commission Assessment. The two chairmen released a joint statement emphasizing their commitment to President Trump’s vision for a healthier nation while voicing apprehension about the potential implications for American farmers and ranchers.
The statement reads: “We share President Trump’s vision for a healthier nation; however, we are troubled by the initial findings of the MAHA Commission Assessment and their impact on America’s farmers and ranchers.”
Boozman and Thompson stressed the importance of advancing discussions in a way that supports the systems enabling American farmers to produce safe, abundant, and affordable food. They highlighted the need to adhere to risk-based and scientific processes established by Congress.
“It is imperative that we do not stray from the risk-based and scientific processes set forth by Congress,” they stated. “The Commission’s success will center upon course-correcting to prioritize sound science, peer-reviewed research and the buy-in of the agricultural community.”
The chairmen also emphasized their commitment to maintaining oversight and responsible policymaking through their respective committees. They pledged continued efforts to uphold the health and safety standards of America’s food, fiber, and materials produced by farmers, ranchers, and producers.
“Through rigorous oversight and responsible policy making, the Agriculture Committees will continue to do our part in maintaining the health and safety of America’s food, fiber and materials produced by the backbone of our great country, American farmers, ranchers and producers,” they concluded.
