U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Chairman John Boozman addressed a hearing to consider Richard Fordyce’s nomination as Under Secretary of Agriculture for Farm Production and Conservation.
In his opening statement, Boozman congratulated Fordyce and acknowledged his experience in agriculture. “When reviewing your background, it is clear you have the experience to lead the FPAC mission area,” Boozman stated.
Boozman emphasized the importance of Fordyce’s role during challenging times for American agriculture. He highlighted ongoing efforts at USDA, including implementing emergency assistance programs and updates to farm safety nets. “Your nomination comes at a crucial time for American agriculture,” he noted.
The chairman also pointed out the need to modernize farm loan limits and improve approval times for loans. He stressed the importance of supporting young farmers in their endeavors.
“If confirmed as Under Secretary of the USDA mission area that oversees these critical producer facing programs, the committee will look to you to quickly implement improvements authorized by Congress,” Boozman concluded.
Fordyce’s confirmation would place him in charge of significant agricultural programs aimed at aiding farmers and rural communities across the nation.
