Little Rock Trojans baseball team lost to Louisiana Tech, 9-3, on Apr. 14 in Ruston, Louisiana, despite a strong performance by Angel Cano at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
The game was notable for Cano’s offensive display, as he went 3-for-4 with two home runs and two runs batted in. His efforts accounted for much of Little Rock’s scoring against a deep Louisiana Tech pitching staff.
Little Rock (20-17, 8-4 Ohio Valley Conference) managed nine hits and kept pressure on the Bulldogs throughout the night. After falling behind early, the Trojans responded in the second inning when Cano hit his first home run of the game. He added another solo shot in the sixth inning to keep Little Rock within reach.
Other contributors included Jerdy Lopez with two hits and Cade Martin who drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning. The bullpen also provided solid relief performances from Brayden Walls and Josh Beezley, holding Louisiana Tech scoreless through several middle innings.
Louisiana Tech built its lead with a big first inning and pulled away further with four runs in the sixth. Despite this, Little Rock continued to compete against their Conference USA opponent until the end of the game.
The Trojans will return home for an important three-game series against Eastern Illinois starting Friday evening at Gary Hogan Field.
